Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Programme

The office of the Development Commissioner for Handlooms has reported that they have embarked on an ambitious project – Integrated Handloom Cluster Development Programme – since 2006-07 with an aim to improve the marketability of the products through design, product development, common facility center creation, credit facilitation and streamlining the yarn supply.  The programme has now begun to show certain tangible results in the 20 clusters under its first phase.  They have also identified 250 more clusters wherein diagnostic studies have been completed and they expect to start the implementation process soon.

The 20 clusters selected under the first phase are Madhavaram, Bijoy Nagar, Bhagalpur, Kullu, Gadag, Trivendrum, Chanderi/Gwalior, Imphal, Sonepur, Bargarh, Thiruvannamalai, Trichy, Kurinjipadi, Barabanki, Mubarakpur, Varanasi, Bijnore, Samundragarh-Dhatrigaon, Shantipur and Chirala.

For the 20 clusters, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India [EDI] Ahmedabad is acting as National Resource Agency [NRA].  In order to facilitate buyers interface and also to keep abreast about the developments in the clusters, a web portal www.indianhandloomscluster-dchl.net has been prepared by NRA.
