    1. Scientific recruitment of operatives

Great attention has to be paid to the process of selecting operatives to ensure "best fit" between job requirements on one hand and the operatives' personal qualification on the other. Faculty judgement can have a far reaching impact on the textile mill's functioning by adversely affecting its labour productivity, waste level, quality of product etc.

Managements which used to adopt certain pseudo-scientific basis for selection, have, of late realised the need to use more scientific and reliable methods of selection for two reasons.

      • No matter how effective the method of selection, some margin of error is always likely to be present. The purpose of using scientific methods is to reduce this error as much as possible and select individuals who will, by and large, perform well in the textile mill.
      • Cost of subsequent training and development will get reduced significantly.

Since jobs in textile mills are mostly semi-skilled, repetitive and monotonous, it is of utmost importance to select only those individuals who will match these requirements and also have a personality disposition to do jobs of this nature. By doing so, mills can not only ensure that the recruited workes will be able to fulfill the requirements in their jobs, but also show greater commitment and involvement .

SITRA has been offering the service of scientific recruitment of operatives by helping mills to select individuals who posses the requisite skill, aptitude and  attribute for textile mill working.

    2. Performance evaluation of operatives

Maintaining a staff inventory requires mills to take stock of the talents of their workmen on a regular basis.  Such an inventory will provide a realistic estimate of the number of operatives with different KSA (Knowledge, Skill and Aptitude) levels who may be utilised for any further assignments/expansions.  The inventory providing individual capabilities of workmen would also help mills in many other crucial management decisions.

Towards the above, SITRA offers its expertise to have a comprehensive analysis of the workmen in terms of their KSAs.  Individual workers are studied on their aptitude to do textile related jobs, skill and efficiency at which they are currently working and also the extent of their commitment and positive attitude to work in the mills.  Based on this, a comprehensive report is provided to mills covering the above areas.
